I was sifting through the backups of smashedupsanity.com/leavinghope and wondered does anyone even remember my site? smashedupsanity.com for the matter, a huge nin website back in the early days of nin.
Today’s internet is dominated and curated by the app funnel that is tiktok, instagram, youtube, X (twitter), etc; the web 2.0+++ has supremecy across the landscape and there’s no going back. While I myself have tried to “tone down” my use of mindless doomscrolling and whatnot of these sites, I don’t think I’ll ever get there unless I go cold turkey (for an old hat like me, it’s namely youtube that sucks my time.)
Can we go back to a simpler time? Can a new albiet already 6+ year-old protocol like gemini capture the minds of the zeigest and bring forth a new intenet renaissance of world-wide creation and sharing?
Perhaps there is no going back. And those nascent years of the early web 1.0–even the times among Eternal September–will be a footnote in the annals of internet history. The only recourse I see is to preceed forward as I see fit. To become a Doomsday prepper of the internet and bring my small bubble of the internet back for my benefit, and my benefit alone.
And if anyone else wants to tag along … well that’s just peachy.
